Education

In the middle of Drenthe, in the north of the Netherlands, there is a place with a remarkable history. The memory of more than a hundred thousand Dutch Jews is held in this historic site. The story of Westerbork is the story of the murder of a person: a mother, a father, a grandfather, a grandmother, an uncle, an aunt, a brother, a sister, a cousin, a friend, a neighbour, a classmate, 102.000 times... and the story of 5 000 survivors. The Camp Westerbork Memorial Centre, which gives the victims a name and a face, offers a unique selection of educational programmes especially for school groups.

Personal stories are always linked to the history of a particular neighbourhood from where some of the 102.000 victims and 5.000 survivors may have come from. These are neighbourhoods where the modern-day pupils live and some of the victims and survivors may even have gone to the same school as the pupils.
