Getting there by car, bus or motorbike

The Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork is located in Hooghalen, 6.3 miles north of the town of Westerbork. You're advised to take de A28 motorway. From the south you take detraction 31 Westerbork in the direction of Beilen. Turn left after 300 m. Now on the N381, choose the next detraction on your right after 700 m. After 400 m choose the first turn on the roundabout. In the next roundabout  take the second turn, in the direction of Hijken. On the Oude Provinciale weg (Old provincial road) where you are now, take a right after 3 miles (4,9 km). After crossing the railroad, you are 1 mile away from your destination.

From the north of Assen take the detraction Assen-Zuid in the direction of Veendam. After 0.9 miles take the detraction 32 Assen-Zuid in the direction of Assen-Zuid. After half a mile turn right on the Europaweg-Zuid, on whitch you take the first turn on your right after 500 m. On the Oude Provinciale weg (Old provincial road) where you're located now, you take the third turn on the roundabout (near Hooghalen) after 4.1 miles (6,6 km). Crossing the railroad, you have 1 mile left to go untill reaching the Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork.

At the place itself you'll find a lot of parking space for both cars and busses. In close range of the museum special parking spots are allocated for less abled persons, who can also make use of the wheelchairs made available by the centre.

Getting there by train

When you choose to travel a part of your journey to the Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork, you'd best get of the train at the stations Assen or Beilen. The last called station is only accessible by stopping train. For journey planning, prices and departure and arrival information click here.

To the former camp site

The former camp site, where monuments like the National Westerbork Memorial are located, is situated almost 2 miles from the Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork. Due to the presence of Astron, the Dutch Institute for Radio Astronomy, it is not allowed to cover the distance by a motorized vehicle. Just like the use of electronic devices, entry of the area by car, bus or motorbike disturbs the observation activities of the institute and is therefor prohibited. Because offending this rule most likely will be fined, you are advized to walk, cycle or make use of the bus service the Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork is offering (single ticket € 1,50 / return ticket € 2,00). Every 20 minutes a bus is leaving in front of the museum.
